Gavin and Yvonne Frost founded The Church and School of Wicca in 1968 in St. Louis, MO. At that time they also started an occult correspondence school teaching Witchcraft as a spiritual path, along with astral travel, sorcery, astrology, and psychic healing. The church earned its religious tax-exempt status in 1972 and developed branch covens and churches across the United States. The Frosts successfully defended the church against IRS investigation in the federal appeals court in the 1985.

They have written more than 20 books which have been translated into 5 languages including The Witch's Bible and The Magic Power of Witchcraft, which have had a profound effect on the growth of Wicca in America. They are considered by many to be two of the most visible advocates of Wicca in the United States. They are also considered to be controversial within the Wiccan community due to certain views and ideas espoused through their writings over the years.
